How Does David Dunn Have Superpowers

In the movie, The Unbreakables by M. Night Shyamalan, the character David Dunn goes about his life while another character, Elijah Price, tries to convince him that he has superpowers. This mystery is never revealed but the movie obviously shows that David Dunn does indeed have superpowers. Through his intuitions and development of his character in the movie, The Unbreakable, it is revealed that David Dunn does have superpowers. Some accidents happened to David and he seemed to get through them unharmed. When he was in college, David was in a car crash that ended his football career. However, David was not hurt in the accident but he ended his football career so that he could stay with his wife. At the beginning of the movie, David survives …show more content…
When he stands in the train station or in the stadium, he can see the bad things some people have done which is something those without superpowers cannot do. For example, when he bumps into the woman with the red coat, he see her stealing a bracelet and when he bumps into the man in the orange jumpsuit he sees how the man broke into someone’s house and killed the man. Because he could see these things, he was able to save the children in the house and he did not get hurt while fighting with the man in the orange jumpsuit. Still, David does have a weakness, which is water. He drowned when he was a child, which explains why he is afraid of water, and when he goes to the house to save the children he ends up in a pool and most likely would have drowned if it were not for kids he saved. This seems to be his only weakness though, and most comic book superheroes have a weakness. In the movie, Elijah Price explains this, comparing David’s weakness of water to Superman’s weakness of Kryptonite. Overall, David Dunn does have superpowers because his abilities are greater than a normal being. He was never injured, he knows what evils others have done, and he has a weakness, as all superheroes

Authors may choose to write about characters with extreme personalities, or characters who have a skill that they have mastered because it makes the story more intense, and more interesting for the reader. A character with an ability to reconise any musical piece, maybe without even hearing it before, would be an example. Similarly, a character like Sherlock Holmes can figure out any piece of information just by stepping back and looking at the details of a crime. Although his knowlege may be based on information, Sherlock Holmes can connect the clues and infer what could have happened at a crime scene. This is one of the true characteristics of a wise character, because even Albert Einstein said that "information is not knowlege."…

In both The Odyssey by Homer, a story about a great Greek hero and his journey back home to his wife and son, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, a story about a boy who has autism and runs away from home and faces many mental roadblocks along the way, heroic traits are displayed. Both of these books show heroes who emerged and gained strength. Odysseus illustrates incredible physical strength but lacks mental strength.…
