The alyssum plants are adapted to high heat, a great amount of light and can live in high drought area. These plants attracts butterflies, bloom fine violets and white and pink flowers. They are also .2 to 1 foot tall and spread about .75 to 1 foot long. The flowers bloom in almost every time of the year. To measure how darkness and limited light affects a light needing plant like the alyssums, an experiment was established. The question of this experiment is, what effect does the darkness have on a plant that requires a lot of light like alyssums? It is hypothesized that the plant will wilt and try to conserve energy in the dark due to its bright natural habitat. To conduct this experiment one might obtain the material, water the plant with 50 grams natural water without any added preservatives. It is believed that the plant in the dark closet will wilt and try to conserve energy and nutrients, while the plant under the light will stay the same and not change that much over the three days. After the experiment was completed the weight of the plants in both groups (experimental and control) decreased each time they were weighed, but the control group decreased more. Between day three and day one the control group decreased by 35.8 and the experimental group decreased by 13.3. The experimental group was expected to decrease more, since it wasn’t the plant’s natural habitat. It was thought that the plant will wilt and try to conserve energy in the dark due to its bright natural habitat. The problem asked was what effect the darkness has on a plant that requires a lot of light like alyssums? The hypothesis was not supported because it didn’t specify anything about the control group and only mentioned the experimental group and the control group decreased more than the experimental
