Hell is a good propaedeutic to make people strive for righteousness because of the sins they commit. Even a sin that is considered small in human views, has a sever consequence. For example, in the third circle of Hell, it holds people guilty of gluttony, or the people who wallowed in filth throughout their life. They surrounded themselves with unhealthy foods and were not willing to share. To fully understand Hell, people look at Dante’s Inferno. With Dante’s words, preachers and sinners have singled out different sins and their punishments. Even some of the smallest sins, if there is such a thing, there are sever consequences. Some of the punishments are so horrible, that members of churches will do anything to stay away from that. Also, because there are so many levels of hell, and enormous amounts of situations that members will follow the path given to them. To use Hell as a disciplinary act is a smart way to keep people in line.
