Courage Have you ever done something courageous? If so do you enjoy having the trait, has it helped or hurt your life? This is what I am trying to discover. How will the ability of having courage affect your life? Will it backfire or enhance your problems/situations? After closely examining To Kill a Mockingbird and my other sources I have come to a conclusion on this topic. Without question, having courage will make someone a stronger person and more than often will enhance situations. Courage is mostly a good thing as it can save lives, but having too much can backfire. The first thing I am going to talk about is how it enhances situations. I will now furthermore explain how courage enhances a situation. Courage can often enhance a situation …show more content…
Courage can give you a burst of adrenaline and make you do ,what some may say, “stupid” things. This shows in my first example when Atticus is sitting outside of the jail and the mob comes to beat on Tom. Walter tells Atticus he doesn’t have to get hurt just to give Tom up, but he declines the offer telling him “You can turn around and go home again, Walter.”(Lee 183) When the mob showed up to do the lynching Atticus was brave and wouldn’t let them get to Tom, even though he could of been beaten up himself. By having the courage to stand up to the mob Atticus saved Tom’s life. In my article a woman named Deborah Hughes also saved a man 's life. She was walking home from work when she saw a man getting beaten in a alley. Courage took control of her body,“She dove on the ground, threw herself on top of Utash — putting her face and chest on him — and pleaded with the crowd. The crowd started backing up. Hughes rubbed Utash 's chest and performed CPR. No one hurt her. The ambulance arrived.” (Baldas) This 60 year old woman had the courage to help out a complete stranger that was getting jumped. She dove onto him begging the men to stop the beating as the man was moments from death. After successfully pleading for the men to leave him alone she gave him mouth to mouth saving his life. Last but not least, Tom Sawyer saves his partners life during a …show more content…
Courage is most oftenly known as a good trait, being too courageous can backfire. My article clearly shows this when rookie officer Dobis steps in front of fellow partner as she is attacked by a woman with a razor blade, “The woman slashed Dobis 's face multiple times. She got his nose, gums, lips.” Dobis had the courage to step into the lane of fire of the girls attack. Stepping into the assault may of saved his partners life, but doing so put his life in danger. Although he survived he was left with fatale wounds and scars from the slashing. There was also a scenario of courage backfiring in my movie. The movie started with Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn as kids, they were sneaking into an abandoned house looking for a treasure. Finn didn’t want to get caught but Tom talked him into it saying “Come on you chicken, we won’t get caught.”(Nee) Finn didn’t have to go into the abandoned house but courage would not let him back out of this one. If Fin would of just wussed out and not gone into the house he would of never been caught by the police for trespassing and sentenced to jail. In my final source, Kerry’s grandfather has the courage to go greet the new neighbor who is thought to be a killer. Everyone is scared of who this new neighbor could be, but not Kerry’s grandpa as he goes to meet the new neighbor. To bad for him the neighbor is a serial
