A great deal of narratives include a hero; someone who saves the day and works for the well being of others. According to Joseph Campbell, most heroes loosely follow a specific journey with three large phases. The hero first departs, is initiated, and then returns. In the movie Coraline, Coraline follows the hero archetype as she works to reunite herself with her family in the other world. Coraline is seeking a lifestyle in which her workaholic parents would pay more attention to her. Through rescuing her parents Coraline is able to improve their family dynamic.
