Animal domestication affects the development of a civilization because the geographic locations that don’t have as many animals suited for domestication have to do all the farming by hand, don’t have a source of transportation,and don’t have access to all the resources civilizations get from domesticating animals. In order to domesticate an animal there are certain features it needs. The first thing an animal needs is a dominance hierarchy, if humans can control the herds leader they can control the whole herd because the rest of the herd will follow the leader.The animal additionally needs to be a herbivore because it takes a lot of resources to feed an animal and if it was a carnivore then its food would have to be raised and taken care of. Along with being herbivore the animal should be muli-purpose because if a civilization is just using an animal for its meat there is no way to use it while it is maturing. The fourth characteristic an animal needs to be domesticated is it needs a positive disposition. The Last characteristic and animal needs is the animal should mature at a quick pace because humans can breed it only when it is fully matured. The spanish acquired immunity to the disease smallpox because they were around more domestic animals and were always close to them first. When smallpox started spreading in the spanish civilization some people were resistant and when they got the disease they lived through it having children they passed down the resistance to, after thousands of years everyone in the spanish civilization was immune. The germs benefited the spanish because when they wanted to go to war and conquer other areas they would spread the smallpox disease without knowing making their opponents weak and unable to fight back. The Incas did not have immunity to smallpox because the disease came from domesticated animals and the only domestic animal was the llama. The llama was never kept in barns and were never very close with the Incas that’s why they didn’t get the disease until the spanish came. The Incas were greatly impacted from not having the immunity because when the spanish came to attack them the civilization got the disease. The Incas were very weak from the disease and weren’t able to protect themselves when the spanish came so lots of the civilization was killed.
