Self esteem refers to the values that we put on ourselves as a person. Someone with low self esteem is a person who looks at all the negative things about themselves like the way they act and more importantly look. Today self esteem is a big concern for children and teenagers (particularly girls) over their growing up years. Low self esteem can be influenced by what people see, for example what other people look like or what they see people look like in magazines and on tv. This can influence how one acts and looks regarding themselves. The media is one of the biggest causes of low self esteem. The media uses images of over sexualised and “perfect” people in their ads, tv shows and especially in magazines. This gives people the wrong idea of how one should look and makes the person want to look more like the “perfect person” and have the best body shape.
