In this video olympic swimming athlete Bennet Clark demonstrates a race start with the help of his Cal swim team coach and the laws of physics! Clark’s dive can be related back to Newtons 1st law of motion. This law states that “An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and direction, unless acted upon by an unbalanced force” In this video the athlete is at rest when he is first on the starting block. He is being acted upon by normal force between him and the block.…
Imagine walking by a sports bar that shut down because it can't sell alcohol. That was a reality in the days of Prohibition. Prohibition was America's attempt at solving many of its alcohol caused issues. Though many people thought it was a good idea, it soon was repealed by Americans as it did not do what it was meant to do, stop the problems, all it did was create more. Prohibition was the banning of anything to do with alcohol, such as trading, possessing, or buying it.…
John Dalton was a chemist born in Eaglesfield, England on September 6, 1766. His father was a weaver who owned a house and small bit of land. As for religion, both his parents were Quakers. Though they were Christians, the highly regarded Church of England saw the people in the religion as nonconformists. Resulting from this, Dalton’s education was restricted to “dissenting places of education” (Famous Scientists).…
The theme I find the most prevalent in the change in the role of government between the Gilded Age and end of the 1920’s was the government interaction with the economy. From President Grant to President Coolidge we went from a government that had absolutely no involvement in the economy what-so-ever to one that had a significant amount of regulation over it. I believe the driving force behind this was President Woodrow Wilson signing off on the Federal Reserve Act in December of 1913. This act gave the government power over the amount of currency in circulation. This is a big jump from the Laissez Faire government from the gilded age.…
Charles II (1630-1685) was King of England, Scotland and Ireland between 1660 and 1685. He was the son of the executed king Charles I. Charles I lost the second civil war, between the ‘royals’ and the long parliament. The leader of the parliament, in the civil war, was Oliver Cromwell. So, he came in power short after the execution of Charles the I. Cromwell dismantled the pulicchurch and he chose a strict and sober new course. For example, theathers were forbidden and adultery was punishable by death.…
According to the story “Charles by Shirley Jackson. There is a family and they have a son who is in kindergarten who is bad, he never does what anyone tells him to do in school, he made up a name so that his parents will not know that he was the one who was getting in trouble. Their son who is in kindergarten gets in trouble every day that he is in trouble. He never does what anyone tells him to do. Every time the teachers tell him what to do will not do it.…
It is irrefutable that, to a considerable extent, legal and non-legal actions are effective in administering justice for consumers. Consumer law has continually evolved in order to maintain its ability to protect consumers within the ever-changing modern marketplace - progressing from the common law notion of caveat emptor to an intensive legal framework recognising the fundamental need for consumer protections. While much of this contemporary framework - comprised of statutory bodies, law courts and tribunals, and working in conjunction with a myriad of other non-legal avenues - is highly effective in its delivery of justice, there remain areas of concern currently inadequate in safeguarding rights. Thus, although legal and non-legal measures…
The Criminal Justice System is composed of two conflicting models, the due process model and the crime control model. The crime control model has a goal of maintaining social order and preventing crime, while the due process model focuses mainly on the rights of the individual. With law enforcement using quickly advancing and emerging technology like drones and super squad cars, there are disputes about each model due to issues of misuse of police powers and privacy concerns. These debates involve which model is more adapted for the well-being of society and, which model overall is better for reaching the main goals of the criminal justice system. Both models have similar goals of preventing crime and protecting the public, but the way in which these two models succeed those goals slightly differ.…
1. “A Time to Kill” demonstrates the functions of law throughout the film. One example of this is how law portrays right and wrong. In the film, the authorities arrest the two redneck men because they raped a ten year old girl, and that breaks the law in two occasions; Sexual assault and intercourse with a minor. The law states that both sexual assault and intercourse with a minor is wrong.…
Every piece of garment that people use has a particular insulation that is expressed with a particular scale: the clo-value. 1 clo represent 0.155 m2K/W of insulation and the clo scale has a range between 0 and 4, generally 1 clo represents the insulation given by a jumper or a dress (underclothing are included) and the typical comfort temperature while seated (1 met) for who is dressed with a jumper or a dress is 25ºC. When calculating the insulation of a garment it is to consider also where people stay when they are in that particular environment, for example if a person spend most of his time in that building seated in a chair (like in a office) it is also to consider the insulation given by that chair.. Air temperature and mean radiant temperature are two out of four environmental variables, the first is the average temperature of the bulk of air inside a room, the second one is the average effect of radiation from surrounding…
What effects do gun control laws have on the gun crime rate? In my opinion, gun control laws are no effect on crime rate. First reason in why crime rate isn’t effect by the gun control law is because majority of the criminals do not worry about any laws including gun control. Next, the black market for guns will always be able to sell guns so therefore guns will always be a limitless supply for criminals. My last reason is that criminals would not buy guns if they required background checks for purchasing a weapon simply because they wouldn’t want to end up in jail just for making a purchase on a weapon.…
The Law of Conservation of Mass is a system where an isolated system cannot be created or destroyed by a chemical reaction or physical transforms. (from the website: https://courses.lumenlearning.com/introchem/chapter/the-law-of-conservation-of-mass/).The Law states that mass of products in the reaction must be equal to the reactans or the things that causes the reactants. Again from the same website. The History behind it is that the Greeks were the first to come up with the idea, but it wasn’t made by them. That came from Antoine Lavoiser.…
The demarcation problem between science and pseudoscience is one of the Gordian knot problems in the field of philosophy of science. Several proposals have been made in this regard. Karl Popper proposes a ‘falsification principle’ that aims to test the scientific status of a theory. Kuhn has brought forward a claim against this principle that it is only applicable to occasional revolutionary parts rather than the most part of science. However, another attempt has been made by Lakatos in which a progressive research program draws the distinction between science and pseudoscience.…
Newton’s three laws are important in car safety. When a car crashes, the passengers and the car it self, slow down quickly, which causes harm to the passengers. A car crash comes with an immense force, because of the quick stop. Newer cars have safety features that soak up the kinetic energy in collisions, which are; seat belts, air bags and crumple zones. Kinetic energy is the energy of motion.…
• Ensures reasonable predictability in daily life; Administrative law ensured that everyone on the road driving a vehicle have legal authorised licences, this enforces safety on the roads. An example in the text where the law implies is when Klimczak drives the stolen vehicle, as a convict his licences would defiantly be suspendered. He has also been involved in a similar case in 2010, which conform that his licences were suspended when committing these actions. By him driving with no authorise licences he enforces danger on the road especially for other drivers. • Encourages and discourages certain conduct; Criminal law is placed in order to protect and diminishes harm from the society.…
