How Does Calcification Affects The Toxicity Of Freshwater

Decent Essays
A quick solution for water shortages or not having access to water is pumping water from underground. However, pumping groundwater is not a good solution in the long run, as affects the soil, as this causes calcification as the groundwater is pulled up it lowers the water table. This makes it harder to get water from shallow wells, and allows the water to pick up more minerals from deeper in the ground. Calcification makes the soil extremely toxic to plants. With warming temperatures, species and habitat will shift north, move to higher elevations and even disappear. Human activity decreases the amount of grassland, endangering many species, or pushing them into extinction.

In addition to Global Warming’s impact on water, it also impacts the environment, harming ice and bodies of water, plants, and animals. Firstly, Global Warming leads to a shrinkage of glaciers and causes ice on rivers and lakes to break earlier. This decrease in ice also accelerates the rising of sea levels (NASA, The Consequences of Climate Change). Additionally, Global Warming impacts plants, as they are no longer able to survive in certain climates and locations, and trees are flowering earlier. Finally, as a result of Global Warming, animals can no longer live in certain places because places may no longer fulfill their needs (NASA, The Consequences of Climate Change).…
