Once Bo is not seen by Maycomb County for years, the locals begin to tell myths about him, like is “he went out when the moon was high, and peeped in windows. When people’s azaleas froze in a cold snap, it was because he had breathed on them,” (Lee, 9). This nonsense entices the Finch children to get a glimpse of Boo, however they do not release he was always watching them. As he was the one that covered Scout with a blanket the night Miss Maudie’s place went up in flames without Scout even noticing. Boo was also the one who saved the children the night Bob Ewell attacked, he used the kindness of his heart to protect the children. Through Scout, Lee expresses that even though Boo was the one who stabbed Mr. Ewell, letting the town in on it all “it’d be sort of like shootin’ a mockingbird,” (Lee, 304) in the sense allowing the town to know that Boo was alive and responsible for the murder of Maycomb’s most hated man would give him the unwanted attention, killing his innocence. As described through Mr. Underwood, Lee says Tom’s death was a “senseless slaughter of songbirds by humans,” (Lee, 265) meaning that Tom underwent a killing that no one else would have had to encounter. Robinson worked on the property of Mr. Link Deas to support his own family until one day he accepts to help Mayella Ewell through the goodness and kindness of his heart. Mayella forces herself onto him beginning a trial that would have no winners in the end. After being convicted Tom loses his hope, his voice, his song, he “was tired of white men’s chances and preferred to take his own,” (Lee, 260). His death was alike to a killing of a mockingbird, as sin to do it because like all mockingbirds, Tom was innocent and harmless and only ever wanted to bring joy to the people around

Boo’s protective instincts and the way he act out of love to protect the children are probably one of the most important factors in To Kill a Mockingbird. The first time Boo ventures out of his house he puts a blanket around scout (p. 96), and the second time he saved the children’s lives (p. 362). Both of those times he was protecting them from something. He loved the children and love can make people do crazy things, in the case of Boo his love made him kill another man. Yes he may have already been a little insane but killing was not an act of aggression it was an act of innocence.…
