How Does Beowulf Present Heroism

Every epic hero possesses certain heroic characteristics. The epic poem, Beowulf, describes the most heroic man of the Anglo-Saxon times. Beowulf was important and needed by his people and was known by many as a strong and courageous warrior. Because he was a brave warrior, Beowulf was caught in several grim battles, such as the battles with Grendel and the dragon.

Beowulf, being the most heroic warrior of all, was called upon the king of Danes to fight Grendel (pg. 10 line: 41-42). Beowulf depicts heroism by his actions towards Grendel because he was not afraid of him. For instance, Beowulf does not wear his armor and states he can defeat Grendel on his own, which he does. During the battle against Grendel, the epic describes the grimness
