They are still really smart but just do things differently. Living with someone with special needs you see that. It might take the a minute to figure something out. Like counting it is best to do something everyday that they like to do that involves counting. Like if they like hide and seek then for a week have them count to ten then add only a number or two each week. Many people get their dogs cats or other service animals typically before they turn 12 but after they turn 5. It take many years to get papers work for these animals to go through. They try to get the animal to the kids by their 7th birthday. Some people have horse that they consider service but they do different things then what the dogs or cat would do. So horses are more considered a therapy animal. Kids get to keep their animal forever. The animal becomes part of the family.
There are projects that are are trying to see how and why people get autism. There is a project called mssng. It takes people’s genomes and study them to see where a mutation is and how it affects the rest of the family. They take every ones in the family genomes to see if it is genes or environmental. They already took over 10,000 families involved in this project so people can get a better understanding of what autism is.
