That’s more than half the cases of domestic violence in the US. Although certain drugs are illegal and alcohol is not; alcohol is a drug and can be as detrimental to your health as illegal drugs. LaTrobe University in Australia did research which states that it’s the timeliness of how we drink that increases our likelihood of causing domestic violence rather than how much you drink. Research on women’s experience of domestic violence showed that husbands that got drunk a couple times a month were three times more likely to experience domestic violence (“Alcohol’s Role in Domestic Violence”). If alcohol is abused it will most likely lead to any sort of violence in general. Drinking too much alcohol can lead to loss of control and if done so frequently, brain damage can occur. Less tax money is always good. So we should focus on ways to provide treatment instead of ways to elaborate on the problem. Keep it simple. “It has been estimated that a 1% increase in the price of alcohol will decrease the probability of intimate partner violence [mainly associated with domestic violence]... by about 5%” (“Intimate Partner Violence and Alcohol Fact Sheet”). This may be the most effective way to reduce alcoholism in the first place because it not as many people will buy it in the first place if it is expensive and will reduce alcoholism in the lower-class society. The only con is that the upper-class or even middle-class may not be affected by this.
As a conclusion alcoholism is a big factor in domestic violence which is a root cause for the many, many problems we face today. Alcoholism is a social injustice because it can lead to domestic violence which can cause unhealthy relationships and organizations are dealing with alcoholism to address the issue by offering different forms of rehabilitation,
