How Does Alcohol Affect The Brain

Alcohol affects everything a person does and says. Alcohol is a powerful thing and if too much of it is consumed it will change the way you act and process thoughts or words. No matter how you handle drinking it still affects you even if just a small amount is consumed. The effects of alcohol are short term, but they can also turn into long term effects. Alcohol is not good for you and neither are the effects included with drinking, The long term effects include the following:brain damage, different types of cancers, bones, and your weight increase. Ways that alcohol affects your brain are it can cause blackouts, memory loss, or even anxiety. All of these effects should be taken seriously as you raise that next alcoholic drink to your lips. Being an alcoholic can lead to having a disease called alcoholism. According to, Roxanne Dryden-Edwards Alcoholism is “formerly called alcohol dependence or alcohol addiction, is the more severe end of the alcohol use spectrum.” All this mean is alcoholism is more severe than just binge drinking or an occasional drink or two. Along with just drinking too much alcohol alcoholism has effects also. Those effects include: anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Anxiety can be caused by too much alcohol because you do not know what you are doing so you begin to panic. Alcoholism can also cause depression because people see it as a relief or a get away from their problems. Alcohol is not the answer to everything because it can also cause you to have low self-esteem. Alcohol can make you see yourself as someone you really aren’t and you wouldn’t even know the difference because you are intoxicated so much more than you are
