“. . . or that they have a seriously warped view of the contemporary teen experience. Unfortunately, few enough young adults live healthy, scrubbed lives. And what' might be deemed ‘inappropriate’ for them is necessary for many others” (Ellen Hopkins Interview). Many kids go through hardship with someone who is struggling with addiction, and this book may be a saving grace of understandment.…
I would also attempt to obtain the results of experimental research studies, if available. Qualitative research may be more difficult to obtain, either through grounded theory, which requires the researcher to come up with a theory based on the process, action or from the view of the participants, or ethnography, which requires the researcher to obtain data through the interviewing and observation of the group in a natural setting, over a prolonged period of time. I would also look at the use of narrative research, which would allow me to look at the life stories of those individuals affected by the use of opiates and subsequent availability of Narcan. Through the use of phenomenological research, I hope to obtain the opinions and perspective from several people who have experienced the effects of Narcan. If I am unable to personally interview these individuals, I will attempt to obtain information, opinions and details from opiate users, through the use of the internet, books, articles, as well as viewing videos, blogs, etc.…
Laura Key Lindholm English 3 25 January 2016 Alcoholism is an Addiction Over 20 million Americans are addicted to drugs and alcohol, are you one of them? Roughly only 11 percent of the people will receive treatment for their addiction. That’s nearly nothing. Jeannette Walls wrote the book “The Glass Castle” to show readers how her life was really like when she was growing up.…
Having completed the Addictions series towards my Social Workers degree; I chose to report on NAADAC or The Association for Addiction Professionals website. I was very impressed with the opening pages content. The associations’ claim of being a dedicated site “With a mission of leading, unifying and empowering addiction focused professionals to achieve excellence through education, advocacy, and knowledge, standard of practices, ethics, and professional research…” is well founded given the multitude of useful links and the depth of knowledge provided within them. The site provides educational links offering webinars, magazine articles, certification and a host of training programs and events.…
Personally, I haven’t been affected by this issue and my family hasn’t either, I wanted to research why opioid abuse is such a huge problem and what efforts are being put in place to combat this. Lately, on the news, many stories of how the opioid crisis is draining America’s workforce…
Introduction Unintentional poisoning is now the leading cause of injury death in the United States affecting those age 15-64 (CDC WISQARS, 2014). Substance Abuse Treatment in the Juvenile Justice System Juvenile offenders have a high rate of substance use. Upon arrival to a correctional facility after being detained, approximately 56% of boys and 40% of girls tested positive for drugs. Most of these youth test positively for marijuana or cocaine, but many are addicted to many more substances. The DSM-V defines a substance-use disorder as “a maladaptive pattern of substance use leading to clinically significant impairment or distress…” classified by encompassing 2 or more of 11 different criteria from the manual. By effectively treating substance-use disorders, the juvenile justice system can: a) stop the offender from committing the criminal act of drug use itself and b) decrease recidivism rates of juvenile offenders by truly treating them instead of perpetuating them to become a product of the…

Teenagers are this nations future. Many teens around the world have conformed to the lifestyle of drug use. This lifestyle can be very dangerous. Not only in your health, but psychologically also. I believe that teen drug use is bad because it could harm your body, harm your mental state, and can affect your future.…

Stereotyping addiction sufferers as immoral characters is not helpful. It is a shame-based concept that perpetuates the addiction problem and discourages a person from reaching out for help. Who would choose to feel worse about themselves than they already feel? This is why it can be so hard to enter recovery programs. It is deeply disappointing and disingenuous to see again how the media, professionals, and members of our society repeatedly demonize, marginalize and even re-criminalize a chronic, recurrent, progressive and ultimately fatal brain disease.…

The Juvenile and Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention Program was implemented in 2007, in Fulton County, Georgia. The program was geared toward promoting and developing healthy choices concerning drug and alcohol use in both juvenile and adolescent individuals. Participants were required to have parental permission and given a pre-test and post-test to establish their knowledge and personal outlook on substance abuse before and after the program. Participants were given age appropriate material and taught how to identify and resist peer pressure through various outlets: role play, discussions, group activities, and interactively. Each day drugs makes a huge impact on our generation. Throughout this paper, I am looking to find out what causes teenagers to try illegal drugs and how it impacts their life. Drugs can affect a person in different parts of their lives. For example their education, work, personal life, and the relationship with their family and friends.…
The problem that manifests in South Africa especially amongst teenagers in the society is drug abuse. I say this because teenagers in schools have a habit of using drugs to stimulate their performance, build up their self-esteem or because of peer pressure and none of these should be happening in schools as drugs are illegal and they have negative effects for their bodies. Drug abuse is the excessive use of a substance that is illegal either alcohol or drugs, this leads the teen to be dependent on the substance. A form of action that can be taken to deal with this problem especially in schools is that children should be searched for drugs in the morning before they enter the school premises, this will prevent the learners bringing drugs at school and they will spend five to six hours without using drugs.…
