How Does Adams Use Satire In Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

A type of fiction which challenges one’s outlooks and ideas is called satire. Satire is a perfect way to see different point of view because it not only shares new opinions, but it is also light and humorous. Satire mainly targets human life, society, and nature. In Douglas Adams’s Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is an example of satire where he challenges government, human arrogance, and selfishness. One of the most peculiar characters in the story is Zaphod Beeblebrox also know as the one the most successful “President of the Galaxy.” Despite his title as president, Beeblebrox is untrustworthy, a crook, and doesn’t even hold any political power. In the story, “The President” is purely for show and only a few people know this. People often think they are better than other animals because of their advances in technology when other animals have better natural adaptations such as ants, who can lift items much heavier than their body weight. In the story Adams talks about how mice and dolphins are actually smarter than humans, but humans never tried to understand them. The dolphins actually warned the humans that the earth was ending, but the humans misinterpreted it as tricks for food. The author tries to teach his audience that people should acknowledge other animals intelligence instead of assume they are all dumb. For example a recent study has shown that dogs can understand what humans are saying. In the story, mice are actually the creator of the earth which confuses the audience because people often see mice as a pest to humans instead of another intelligent life form.
