Reflective Essay: The Two Spheres Of My Writing

Improved Essays
The two spheres that have impacted my life the most are academic and personal. This is because I have spent the most time writing for myself and for essays and other school related pieces. Since I started school I have been writing for my classes. There hasn 't been a year that I haven 't written something. From Kindergarten where I used to draw a picture and describe it in two sentences, to High School where I wrote an essay almost every week, because of this I believe the academic sphere has been a big influence in my writing style. Since I was really little, I have been writing little notes to my self or writing down something that had happened or even little short stories of something I would think of. Also, I try to write in my journal everyday, I do this because I want to be able to look back on things that …show more content…
Although academic writing is done for schoolwork and personal writing is done specifically to satisfy the self, I use the same techniques for both. I might be writing something for a class but I still use my own words and writing styles to complete the pieces. Everything I have learned about writing has been taught to me in school so even when I write for myself I use similar styles to what I would use in class for an assignment piece. I think I will use both spheres in the future. I know I will always write personally in some form or another. It 's important to me that I don 't lose touch with what made me fall in love with writing down how I feel everyday in my journal, it’s the only time of day I feel calm because by writing everything down it helps me get in touch with myself more. I also know that I will be using the writing techniques I learned through my academic writing for the rest of my life. This is because I want to be a teacher when I 'm older and I know that the way I teach my future students how to write will reflect how I was taught when I was

A writing experience that has stood out the most for me was when I was a sophomore in High School. There was a girl in my class who I wasn't so fond of who one day decided to announce to everyone that she had begun to write her own stories. She showed everyone pieces of her writings expecting to get nothing but compliments and be to deemed the class writer, but when she finally showed me her work I cringed at how deplorable it was. The stories had no clear perspective of whether it was written in first person or third person view, some of the simplest of words were spelled wrong, and many words were used in the wrong context. The class didn't seem to care for her stories so they just gave standard responses with no words for…

The way I move through my own writing process is simple. I always start with research on a specific topic that an instructor gives me. I’m that kind of person that loves to highlight the important details of someone else’s information so I can admire her or his work in my papers. Then after finding the right amount of work to compose my own paper I start out with a title page.…

As I grew older, I started to dislike reading because it just seemed boring to me to read the books or novels we had to read in school. Although, I did enjoy to read my own personal books that I checked out from the library, reading was just something I didn’t have much interest for as I did for writing. I greatly enjoyed writing. Most of the writing I have done, whether it be academic or informal, has always had a touch of a personal experience and emotion. I have loved the feeling of calculating thoughts and getting them down on paper.…

What writing means to me and why I prefer to shy away from it, until now. Being an Adult Learner, having been out of school for more than 30 years my weaknesses outweigh my strengths. My greatest weakness in writing, I would have to say is my spelling and use of grammar. I have recently been diagnosed with a slight learning disability which explains my problems with spelling and grammar. Having 4 children who I am very close too helps alleviate a huge portion of my inhibitions about writing, that combined with the newer technologies of programs like MS Word and other programs like it that have spell and grammar check help me in my daily writing needs.…

Whether we know it or not in this modern society we are writers everyday of our lives. These interactions shape not only how we communicate but how we write as well. Personally, I have been shaped by the influence of both other writers I have known and those I have only read the creations of. Those same influences contributed to both my writing style in the classroom and to my identity as a writer. I spent a lot of my childhood with my nose deep in fiction novels at near by libraries.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

In the beginning of my high school career I enjoyed writing because at that point is was more focused on creativity rather than analysis. We eventually began branching out and started writing persuasive essays and research papers. Of course, I enjoyed creative writing the best because it was an outlet to express my opinions. The second type of writing I felt most confident in was persuasive. In high school we made arguments based on a certain topic we choose.…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…
