In the play, The Crucible, having a good name was important to most. Abigail Williams did not want everyone to know about her and John Proctor. She wanted to have a good name in the village, so she threatened to kill Goody Proctor (Elizabeth) if he told the court the truth. At the end of the play, John Proctor had a goal to save his good name, even if it meant he got hung.
