The poppet is a symbol of Abigail’s control of society because she is able to control the town like a poppet. The symbol emerges when Hale says, “Abigail were stabbed tonight; a needle were found stuck into her belly -” (76). Miller shows how Abigail is able to manipulate society to her will by acting. By inflicting self harm and acting, Abigail is able to influence the results she wants which is to accuse Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft and to deceive the town into thinking she's innocent. Another reason why Abigail's control of society symbolizes a poppet because as she controls society, Abigail hurts society like a “curse.” Whenever she manipulates society for her own interests, she ruins the lives of her victims.
