Car Wash 2016 a Homecoming fundraiser.

On this day, Saturday, September 17th, 2016, was our first ever O.C.A car wash! The fundraiser was a creative and fun idea to raise money for our homecoming dance later that fall, provided by the homecoming/prom committee (Director: Mrs. Alicia Fox-Vidal, President: Jose Flores, Vice President: Sammy Vidal, Secretary: Ryana Lugo, Helpful Committee Students: Leila Lugo, Samantha Vidal). We had lots of support from students, families, and staff. From the elementary and middle school kids, like Jaylee and Natalie Santiago, Mya Burns, Yanira Lugo, Seth Vidal, Brian Lespier, and Jason Gardiner, to the high school students, including seniors like Samantha Rawlings, Savanna and Isaiah Burns, and Evelis Orta,

I’ve been cleaning up the beach since I was ten, always bringing a trash bag along with my buckets and shovels. It was nice to be a part of an organized event and to work with other people who share the same love for the ocean and care about the health of the beach as much as I do. We walked from 67th to 82nd avenue which at first, I thought it was going to be an overwhelming amount of walking, but it really wasn’t that bad and overall I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Even though what we did that day did have some immediate effect, the preponderant impact and fruit will take longer to achieve. But I know that every time, I see a new neighborhood or a new school or even a new hotel being built around this area, I’ll know I preformed a small act that contributed to its creation.…

The PTA would assemble all the items from each class in gigantic gift baskets for the highly anticipated raffle. Parents and students that desired to win the baskets had to buy tickets to put in the smaller baskets designated for choosing the winners.…
