How Do Superheroes Build Independence

Improved Essays
“Superheroes build independence, citizens are dependent on superheroes.” Whether you want to believe that is up to you right? For me I choose not to believe that because superheroes are not independent whether its batman or a family member, even a friend. For example, Batman has Alfred or his sidekick Robin, which are his support. Everyone needs support during games, doing homework or even change your perspective on the world. I was one of the many people that needed the support to change my perspective, having to go through a motorcycle accident and having scars made me feel different from everyone.

During my stay in Vietnam I got to meet new faces and once again connect with my uncles, aunts, cousins and grandma. One day my uncle decided to take my brother up to my other uncles house because he had internet and my brother wanted to message his friends because it been a while since we left America. I was able to tag along, so after about driving on the motorcycle for about 30-45 minutes we were close to getting to my uncles house, about a minute or so. Suddenly out of the corner my eye I saw something dart from the side of the street, it was a dog and we struck it with the front wheel. I was sent flying, I remember seeing the ground below me. I suddenly blacked out and my vision started to slowly fade back in, I was laying on the ground facedown and I

Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay “Self Reliance” (1841) is widely regarded as one of his most influential, contemplated, and enduring pieces of work. The superhero genre stands apart from more traditional academic discussions on “Self Reliance”, but perhaps may be the most effective medium through which to discuss Emerson’s thoughts in the modern day. Within these movies and television shows, audiences witness and applaud a physical manifestation of the genius Emerson discusses in “Self Reliance”. These immensely talented individuals take the law into their own hands, sometimes with unconventional methods to satisfy their moral code. In the tales of fictional characters such as Batman or Spider-Man, the ideals of individualism and nonconformity…

My first week at the Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation, or Camp Hohn as everyone called it, was probably one of the worst weeks of my life. The camp looked nice on paper; it was described as a 120-acre camp on the banks of the Lake of the Ozarks, with bluffs overlooking the lake and many campsites, all surrounded by a five mile nature trail. However, they failed to include in the brochure that due to the camps size, the classes available to take were extremely spread out. To get to the waterfront, hiking down switchbacks was necessary. Also, the bluff was difficult to reach and had no railing, which offered no protection from the one hundred foot drop to the water below.…
