Many people are convinced that those who make the most money in life are worth a lot more then a person who might be living off minimum wage. It is wrong to believe that just because a person makes more money, they are more useful. We are fixed to the idea of “survival of the fittest”, but do not really pay attention to the situations. Just because a lawyer makes more money, it should not mean that they are worth more then the janitor who cleans his office. After the nine-eleven incident in two thousand and one, families who suffered received money, but a different price was set for each family. In Amanda Ripleys article, “what is a life worth?”, she explains how a family who had a higher paying job will receive more money then a lower paying job. She states “…a broker’s family will qualify for a vastly higher award than a window washers family.”(page 57 paragraph 7). Rather then give every family the same amount of money regardless of where they come from, the government choses to give more money to those who make more money. Based on the “Human Life Value Calculator” people are worth what they are worth based on economy and money in their life. It all comes down to the idea that we choose to pay those better who we are convinced are more useful to our world.
