I don’t like conflict at all. In my background there was a lot of conflict from when I was a young age. This made me realize that nothing good ever comes from it. It has made it to where I avoid it a all cost. I will tell people what they want to hear, so it will not end up into a argument. One time my friend and I got into a conflict over something very silly. He wanted to try and talk about it, but being the way I am I wouldn’t. I knew that it would end up with us fighting, so I tried to avoid it. This went on for like two months, and finally realized that I couldn’t avoid it anymore. We talked it out and everything was

I was not ready for what happened at the end of “Things fall Apart”. Okonkwo, throughout the story, is a strong character. If we look at the beginning, we see that he was a well-respected man within his clan as well as being one of the well-known wrestlers. In addition, we read Okonkwo say “If they listen to him I shall leave them and plan my own revenge” (Achebe 139) when talking about what he would do if the men is his clan were to listen to Umuofia instead of him. In regards to this, it was such a shock for me to learn that he has taken his life.…

The book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe focuses on the character Okonkwo, his family and the Ibo tribe. The book Things Fall Apart gives many examples of how Okonkwo has failures and consequences for his failures and then has to live with these consequences and their negative effects. Many examples of this show up throughout the novel such as him killing another tribesman by accidentally shooting off his defective old gun and this has him and his family getting banished from their tribe. Okonkwo is a well-decorated tribesman and warrior who has based his life off of not being a failure and considered weak as his father was before him. Many times in life, as well as literature, people make choices and must live with the consequences…

Because of this fear Okonkwo believes that he constantly has to be powerful and strong in every aspect of his life otherwise, he would be just like his father. This belief leads to the horrible and unfair treatment of the people around him. Not only does Okonkwo treat his fellow tribe members with disrespect but, he also abuses his wives and children. So much that at one point in the passage, Okonkwo gave his wife “a sound beating and left her and her only daughter weeping” (Achebe 38) after blaming his wife for killing a banana tree. Okonkwo is too focused on not showing any emotions or weakness once exhibited by his father that he abuses his family to cover it up just like he did at that point.…

Chinua Achebe writes a fascinating novel, Things Fall Apart, in which he explores the struggle of a man, Okonkwo, and his conflict between the pride of his culture and the pride of his manhood. The novel was somewhat similar to what I had expected. From the obvious title, some type of community was going to fall apart but other than that, the other aspects of the novel such as Ikemefuma death, Okonkwo’s exile, and the white man’s church were completely unpredictable. One of the main things that I like about the novel is how Achebe incorporated the Ibo language into the dialogues. It helps the reader better connect with the Ibo culture.…
