Relation of Fawcett’s Meta-Paradigm to the POI Jacqueline Fawcett developed a metaparadigm to define the discipline of nursing. Her goal was to ensure that nurses would be able to clearly communicate their role and the duties that they perform. Fawcett defined the nursing discipline as the study of relations between the following concepts: human being, environment, health, and nursing; she believed that these concepts were important and could help shape the discipline of nursing (Butts & Rich, 2015). The concepts are connected in a sense that a change in one affects the change in another.…

In her argument, she did not use scientific data or gathered evidence to support her case, unlike the academic articles cited above.…

In a dream, I sit at an old desk by an open window. A cool breeze ruffles all the papers strewn across the desk surface, accompanied by the triumphant shouts of playing children. From a back bedroom the lovely but imperfect melody of an instrument being practiced provides a soundtrack for my life, 10 years from now. Instinctively I understand that my ‘official’ career is in Critical Care nursing; though in the days of the dream, I only work part-time. I have a large family, violin students, and books to write.…
During my time in college, I struggled in courses unrelated to my major and earned grades of C’s and D’s. During my freshman year, in my attempt to please my parents and peruse a career in nursing, I earned two D’s while taking the prerequisites needed to apply to nursing school. After my less than stellar performance in those courses, I decided not to pursue a career in medicine. Not following the career path my parents prescribed left me directionless, and unsure of the courses to take, and the career to puruse. I wish I had sought help and advice from my peers, professors, and the administration to guide me in my decisions regarding my coursework and major.…
