How Do Myths Affect A Baby?

Myths have been around for centuries and as decades go by more of them are being created. Many choose to believe that myths are true and will incorporate them into their daily lives. A very common group of people who tend to listen to myths are pregnant women. People have different myths and beliefs on how you should act when you are pregnant, but how do these choices effect a baby? Pregnant women want what is best for their child so they follow every rule in the book to make sure that their baby is born healthy. There has been some conflict on to which of these myths are true and which are not proven by facts. The truth is that doctors and scientist have a tough time understanding the reactants of a fetus because we can’t communicate with an unborn child. A report by Lawson states that between 28%-42% of pregnant teenagers and young adults use substances such as alcohol and tobacco (Johnson). Heavy drinking has severe effects to the fetus that can cause fetal alcohol syndrome. The degree to which a person is affected by prenatal alcohol exposure depends on the amount, timing, and duration of the mother’s alcohol consumption during pregnancy (Johnson).
