How Do My Cooperating Teachers Use Cell Phones In The Classroom

Improved Essays
During the first two weeks of my observation at Highland High School, my partner, Alex, and I noticed how students had their phones out during a majority of the class periods. The teachers did not really address the problem during class. When we met up with our peers and asked them about cell phones in the classroom, they said they observed the same problem as we did in their cooperating teacher’s classrooms. At first, my inquiry question was what happens when my cooperating teachers allow their classes to use their phones during class? I was interested in finding out about the outcome of this, because my two cooperating teachers have very different opinions. Mrs. M says that she has plenty of support from administration; she has this viewpoint because she came from teaching in a Camden district, where no resources were provided to her and she spent lots of money to buy supplies for her students. On the other hand, my other cooperating teacher, Mrs. B has been teaching at Highland the longest out of all the teachers in the English Department and she really goes on about how administration doesn't care and there is no support. The hallways and classrooms at Highland are flooded with buckets to catch the leaks from the ceiling, there is a stench of mold in a part of the hallway, and students use their phones and other technology whenever they want and take advantage of this during class. I think that my field experience at Highland is the appropriate setting to explore these questions because there are two very different opinions about administration support, and I am visually able to see what the teachers are complaining about or have problems
