How Do Mars Develop Life

Improved Essays
There has been a large debate recently over whether or not Mars shows signs of life, and whether it could develop life. A small team consisting of 4 people decided to find out the truth. The group designed and executed a series of experiments that tested for the presence of certain essential macromolecules: carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins. After compiling the results of each experiment, the group found out that in their experiments, the soil turned out negative for every test. This led to the conclusion that Mars is unable to develop life, because of the lack of macromolecules which are essential for life as humans know it.

Lisa Grossman’s article “SpaceX Mars Plan is Clever but Unconvincing” presents a stronger argument than Eric Betz’s article “The Falcon has Landed. Now SpaceX is Eyeing Mars” because overall, Grossman’s has more authority, is more logical, and uses better examples. 2 One of the main reasons Lisa Grossman’s argument is stronger is because overall, she has more credibility than Eric Betz. Although Betz is associate editor of Discover magazine and has written numerous articles on space and nature, Gossman has had years of experience in astronomy.…

So I navigate by Phobos. It whips around Mars so fast it actually rises and sets twice a day, running west to east.…

After the discovery of hydrothermal vents, an alternative theory about origins of life have arisen, from new evidence found from these vents, that early life could have begun from hydrothermal vents. It has been theorised that the first organisms on earth had been autotrophs and were able to synthesise organic compounds from inorganic material in the surrounding environment (Morowitz et al. 2000). In the ecosystems surrounding these hydrothermal vents, the organisms living within these ecosystems are based around bacterial processes and has been suggested by Baross and Hoffman to be “analogous, physiologically and biochemically, to the earliest group of microorganisms to have evolved on Earth” (Baross and Hoffman 1985). Hydrothermal vents…

However, the Earth and Mars both have rich supplies of oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, and carbon; Mars has these elements in the forms of nitrogen gas, carbon dioxide gas, and ice. What is infinitely more vital, however, is whether we would be able to transform these resources in such a way that we would then be able to actually inhabit Mars. There is an answer to this question, albeit untested. Using the process of a controlled global warming through a method called outgassing (Terrestrial), we would be able to terraform the planet to a point that biological life could thrive without the constant need for technology (Terrestrial). This process could make Mars very similar to the Earth in terms of its overall atmosphere, climate, and environment.…
