Essay About Laundry As A College Freshman

Improved Essays
How to do Laundry as a College Freshman You would think that classes are the most overwhelming thing for a college freshman. However, even though classes are difficult doing laundry is even more problematic. My entire life I had my parent do all my laundry, and I never even knew how to make my bed until college. After living such a privileged life, I was scared out of my mind to do laundry for the first time. Doing laundry was like learning how to do a backflip, you need to land on your head a few times before you understand how to master it. I definitely landed on my head way more than a few times doing my laundry. Before I even went downstairs to the laundry room, I had to call my mother for advice. The first thing she told me to do was …show more content…
I thought about my one card not working, or dropping my laundry all over the floor and was so afraid that I was going to embarrass myself in front of everyone in the laundry room. As I approached the laundry room it was silence and my heart was pounding as I opened the door. Gladly, no one was in the laundry room to witness my embarrassment. I quickly ran to the first washing machine that looked free and shoved my clothes inside. I walked over to the one card swipe and prayed that my mother had actually put retail points onto my card. Luckily, my one card work and I was able to use the washing machine.
There were only 6 buttons on the washing machine and no of them said darks, so I made a guess that colors would be the best choice. However, I was wrong because as the wash started I saw the screen say warm cycle and I knew that darks were supposed to be washed in cold. After trying multiple times to press another button or open the door I finally gave up and hoped that temperature difference wouldn’t

I was able to transport all my clothes to the dryer safely and then looked at the dryer instructions on the wall. Before using the machine, I had to clean the lint screen. I had never heard of a lint screen before and fumbled around trying to find it for about ten minutes. Clearing the lint screen was definitely one of my top ten grosses moments of my life. Since I had no idea how to clean it I just started banging the lint screen against the trash can until all the lint fell off. I then put the lint screen back in and went to swipe my card to start the load. Once again there wasn’t a button for darks, so I just pressed colors and hope it would be okay.
I went back to the laundry room for the last time that night and actually saw another person in the laundry room. I quietly went over to my dryer opened it, reach it and jumped backward from how hot my clothes were. I eventually started chucking my clothes into my bag despite how hot they were.
My last task of doing laundry was folding and I finished it in recorded time because I actually knew how to fold laundry. First I folded my t-shirts, then pants, and lastly underwear. After all the hard work and confusion over a “simple machine” I was ready to crash. I felt like I had ran a marathon not a simple household task. The only piece of advice I could give is to

Someone once said, "Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret." This essentially means that discipline will be difficult to manage but it’s a finer choice than regretting your decisions later on. School can be difficult, but the pain of the self-command and devotion will get you much further in your education than lackadaisical and deprecate. It seems to me that future freshmen with a hard work ethic and commitment should attend Early College High School because it saves the student time, money and you provides a safe atmosphere with a supportive audience. Not only is Early College High School a free program…

Sitting in up in the chair, I slowly scan the pool, while sweat drips down my face. Young kids are running around, screaming to each other from across the pool. As soon as I hear pitter-patter of their footsteps I immediately, without thinking, yell, “walk please!” in my kind but firm “lifeguard” voice. From the corner of my eye, I see a young mom strolling toward the towel rack, dressed in her designer cover-up and oversized sunglasses.…

When I was asked to list all the things I carry, I started listing the physical items, but after a while, I realized that there emotional items that I carry as well. I carry memories and feelings that either haunt or delight me. And while the physical things I carry are largely based on necessity, the emotional things I carry will be with me forever.…

“Dress codes given the power they entrust school authorities to regulate student identity-can, according to students, ultimately establish discriminatory standards as the norm”. (Gordon)People have started sexualising and discriminating a woman's attire, and having to cover up just so male students can go to school free of distractions. There have been several arguments against school dress codes, such as dress codes being mainly sexist against young women in schools. This does not mean there has not been instances where some young boys have been singled out, just simply stating young women are the main focus. Another issue that has been pressed is that dress codes are not sexist they are just preparing us for our future career.…
