To say that I am a reader would be a stretch. I can not remember the last time I picked up a book for my own personal pleasure. Some would say that should bother me, but I can’t agree with the reasoning behind it. Mostly people bring up how books have broadened their horizons and changed their way of thinking, which is something I can’t relate to. Instead, I would say that I agree with what a good book should do, but I can‘t say I have found a good book, or a page turner if you will.…

Leadership is setting the example for others to follow, being able to follow others no matter what their rank, having professional knowledge and taking care of your people. You must be willing to set the example even when you think no one is looking; because there is always someone watching you whether you know it or not. One of my biggest leadership influences during my career was Senior Chief Brian Dumas. I have always been a reader, I don't think there has ever been a time in my life where I haven't loved it. My mom is a teacher, so as a child reading was part of our everyday life. We had annual passes to the library and would attend the mommy and me events. I remember when I was about four or five, I would sneak a flashlight into my room and read Wizard of Oz. Although I couldn't actually read the words out of this huge chapter book, I would make the story up, pretending I knew what I was reading.…
