How Do Extracurricular Activities Shape Me

Extracurricular activities have shaped me in many ways. During my two years in the United States, I ran for student president at my school, I participated in community service, and I obtained an internship. I realize that these activities have not only allowed me to develop and become more versatile, but also helped me integrate into American society. This year, I ran for student president, and I won. I attend Emma Lazarus High School where is a diverse place with people from over 20 countries. I work alongside other board members to enhance the school’s environment into a safe, caring, loving and welcoming community for everyone. In this semester, I helped to plan a welcome party for new students, collected food for the homeless, and provided tutoring to students who needed additional support. My goal is to bring everyone together because I believe that we can fuse different cultures. This experience has made me rethink what it means to be a leader. I have come to understand that being a leader is never an easy task. A good leader needs to listen to others, combine ideas, and impel everyone to collaborate. I have participated in many locations of community services, such as volunteering at the Bowery Mission and with the Smoke-Free Campaign. Distributing foods to the homeless in the Bowery Mission has made me realize that many people in our communities need help, and I have the obligation to support them because everyone should contribute to their community. In adittion, I have served on the Smoke-Free Campaign in NYC. Each time I participate in a community service, I feel a great deal of responsibility to continue imparting hope in the lives of many individuals in our local
