People who do drugs or get caught with drugs don’t get too bad of a penalty. But, they still get punished. According to Oliver Roeder in the article Releasing Drug Offenders, “48.6 percent of people in prison are in there for drugs.” Although drug use is not good, it's a personal choice. If someone wants to ruin their life using drugs, that is up to that individual. Unless they are harming a child or harming someone else why take them to jail for a long period of time? They should have to be punished but not thrown in prison for five years. They should have to do classes and drug test and get checked on a lot but they shouldn't have to be taken away from their families. Someone who commits sexual assault should get life. They should have to feel to have that happen This awful crime ruins people. This happens to all kinds of people. Sexual assault can happen to babies, kids, teens, adults, everyone. It ruins a person and the punishment is five years? They still get a bed to sleep on, they still get food, they get protected while those who have had this happen get to live with the fact that they are a rape victim! 97 of every 100 rapist receive absolutely no punishment! According to the article “97 of every 100 rapist”, only three of every 100 men or women who rape someone will ever spend even a single day in prison. The other 97 will walk away free. In the same “97 of every 100 rapist” article it states that “only about one out of four reported rapes leads to an arrest, and only about one out of four arrests leads to a felony conviction and incarceration”. It's also says “about 6% of rapists ultimately go to prison for their crime”. How does this even add up? How does the court system let someone who raped another person walk out of the courtroom with absolutely no punishment at all. That's not fair to the person they raped or anyone else for that matter. If that person raped someone before, they will do it again! The court system can save so many kids from being raped by putting a rapist in prison.
