How Deer Got Their Antlers. One day a family of deer were roaming around the forest looking for some fresh fruit to eat. The older deer would sniff around trying to find some fruit to eat as they put the fruits they did find in woven baskets made by their friends the bevers. As many of the young ones played around, they made a lot of ruckus from messing around during the fruit search; the fawns were then scorned at by the elders. Whitetail food habit studies indicate a significant change in deer feeding habits from summer to winter. Management efforts that seek to improve deer body condition should be directed toward insuring adequate food supplies during all seasons of the year by maintaining the proper carrying capacity, enhancing natural habitat, or through supplemental whitetail foods. I had also considered how deer communicate and learned how to tell when deer are most relaxed and know when they are sensing danger. By doing this I looked up the different movements of a deer’s tail, being they use this as a form of communication to other deer. Number One is the wag or swish this is a side to side tail wagging or a swishing motion.…

In the essay “The Deer at Providencia,” Annie Dillard describes her trip to a village called Providencia in the Amazon watershed with three North American men and their moving experience of watching a dying deer suffering and struggling. In order to prepare the deer for dinner, the villagers kill the “small, ‘pretty,’ thin-skinned” deer, by having a rope around its neck and making it unable to escape (557). Villagers of Providencia and the travelers, Dillard included, come from very different backgrounds but all silently watch the deer suffer. During lunch, Dillard describes the deliciousness of the fish and the meat of another deer killed the day before, and that she enjoys the meal very much (558). She also points out that while eating, people…

But when you are walking in the woods you want to try and act like a deer by how they walk also hunters can do this by walking in a erratic stop and go pattern, but simply most easiest way is to just go with the flow because you will never have the same hunt. Deer are mostly accustomed to hearing squirrels running through the leaves and limbs falling from trees, but if a hunter goes out and doesn’t spray any scent on him to cover him up a deer will smell you from miles away and won’t come to your stand. Deer live in the wood twenty four hours, seven days a week they know what sounds are normal to them and what sounds are not if a hunter makes just the slightest noise of something slamming against metal when you are climbing up a stand the deer will get curious around their territory. Another thing that all hunters should do is not let your guard down because the minute that you do the biggest buck of your life could walk right past you and you didn’t get the shot off, but if you don’t let your guard down you have to be calm and quiet because when you see the big buck your adrenaline will kick in and your heart will be racing so much but everything can happen so fast in a blink of an…
