How Can Dietary Choice Impact the Risk of Obesity?
Obesity is an increasingly common disease in adults and children which involves over eating and results in excess fat being stored in the body. Obesity is usually present in people who eat more than the body needs and who have an inactive lifestyle. Every year there are 200,000 deaths from cardiovascular disease and 156,000 deaths from cancer, which most likely are a result of being overweight or obese. This essay will discuss the impact of government policy on dietary choice, the way individuals’ dietary choice has effected them, the further problems that being overweight or obese may cause and the way to prevent being obese or to help the current situation.

A dietary choice that would have to be avoided is salt as this could lead to a high blood pressure. People should also try to avoid sugar as this could lead to an increase in fat storage however it is important to note that the recommended daily intake of sugar is needed to maintain normal blood sugar levels in the blood stream to ensure there is enough energy to carry out bodily functions. The type of fats you should include in your diet are unsaturated fat, which are included in oily fish (omega 3 and 6), nuts, avocadoes and olives. According to Hunter J.E, Zhang J and Kris-Etherton P.M (2010), these fats have been proven to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Dietary choice may not be the only impact of becoming obese, as the lack of physical exercise can also have a big impact as the body is not burning off the calories eaten fast enough. Research has shown that a general goal of 30 minutes of exercise a day can reduce the risk of obesity. For those people who are diagnosed as obese swimming is the recommended sport to undertake as it puts less pressure on bones and
