The Treaty of Versailles was a peace treaty written at the end of WWI. It was the most important treaty signed at versailles. It ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers. It was very harsh on Germany. They blamed Germany for the entire war. The Terms of the Treaty such as the war guilt, the reparations, and the colonial losses weakened Germany economically, militarily, and territorially. It was the chief among the five peace treaties that terminated World War I. The other four were Saint-Germain, for Austria; Trianon, for Hungary; Neuilly, for Bulgaria; and Sèvres, for Turkey. Signed on June 28, 1919, by Germany on the one hand and by the Allies on the other, the Treaty of Versailles embodied the results of the long and often bitter negotiations of the Paris Peace Conference of 1919.

It was formed by the victorious powers in 1919. It was created to enforce the Treaty of Versailles and the other peace agreements that concluded World War I. It was planned to replace secret deals and war, as means for settling international disputes, with open diplomacy and peaceful mediation. By 1935, most countries did not think that the League could keep the peace. When Hitler began to break the Treaty of Versailles in the 1930s, the League was powerless to stop him. The League failed, and the only way to stop Hitler was a Second World
