It was fought between two sides, the Axis powers and the Allied powers. The Axis powers consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Allies mainly consisted of Britain, France, and the Soviet Union. When the war began, Germany was the main problem. They were craving land to conquer and used their powerful army to get the job done. The German army used a style of fighting called blitzkrieg. Blitzkrieg consisted of quick, surprising attacks on enemy troops. It was a very successful type of warfare that helped the Germans conquer Belgium, Holland, and France. After Winston Churchill became Prime Minister of Britain, Britain was victorious at the Battle of Britain. This battle forced Hitler to postpone his invasion plans.
