The conflict affected women greatly but, even before the war problems where still at hand, before World War Two woman where not allowed in the work force and had to stay home to look after their children and home, where they would clean the house and prepare meals. This however changed when World War two happened, being overseas (see map 1), men were no longer available to work, leaving many jobs to be taken on by woman, because men where the ones who went to work, many places had no workers, this put many women in the work force for the …show more content…
During the war period woman were working in factories, this was not typical as before this, once woman were married they were expected to quit work and stay at home, even though many woman wanted to keep their jobs expectations seemed to overshadow their dreams "I would love to have been a pilot," says Kim Roper, now 82. "We (women) wanted to fly planes. We had a few older women who actually were pilots, but they wouldn't let them fly. We joined so the boys could serve." (Source 6) (See picture 2). Upon return home, soldiers often were maimed/mutilated, or suffering from PTSD. This meant they could no longer work, and woman had to look after them, while still doing their previous jobs. Sometimes soldiers did not return home, this left many woman in a state of depression. They went out looking for new men to fulfil their empty hearts and homes, during this period woman were expected to increase the population this was called the baby
