William Henry Ashley was born the year of 1778 in Powhaten, Virginia. He passed away the year of 1838 in Cooper, Missouri. William was many things other than a fur trapper, he was also an American business man and much more. One of Ashley's most famous business you would most likely think of is his fur trapping and trading business. William supplied fur for merchants and businessmen all over the country. At one point he had over 100 men Delivering fur and trapping fur. William had been married twice, first, to Mary Able who died only a few years later. Then he was re-wed to Christy Eliza in 1825 but she passed away also in the time of only five short years. William and his crew of over 100 men were attacked by arikara Indians shortly
