Walt Disney was one of the most influential Americans of the twentieth century. In the 1940s he developed the concept Sentimental Populism. Sentimental Populism was created to glorify American people, emphasize with the “little guy,” and cause average folks to have the last laugh. Disney’s role in America culture was to develop movies that made people laugh but a message about the daily struggles others were going though. He used Pinocchio, Bambi, Dumbo and many more to demonstrate this.
The film Pinocchio, told another story well suited to an audience conditioned by the travails of the depression. The animation studio applied many new technologies to animation and raised the mode of animation to different art forms. Disney was motivated to enhance the view of the film to develop something incredible that no one had seen before. He designed some basic animations for instance the object animation and computer generated imagery. Disney was not afraid to experiment with new techniques to increase the vision of a motion picture. In particular he used a method called object animation, it was one of the first basic forms of animation used. Object animation can be used with puppets, clay, photos, and is filmed on a frame by frame basis. A great example is the Nightmare before Christmas. This technology was used with clay animation as a way to make clay come to life and have movement in the film. Clay animation takes a lot of time and patience because you have to shape all the clay bodies and move every part of the character. The film took up to three years to finish it was time for a change.
