Vincent van Gogh painted “The Starry Night” using oil paints on canvas in 1889. A student appropriated his artwork in order to modify the original meaning, modernize the work, and display an extravagant view of a New York City skyline.

“The Starry Night” and the student’s artwork share many visual evidence qualities such as color, shape, contrast and form. “The Starry Night” utilizes a blue color scheme in order to allude to feelings of sadness. There are many curved, swirly shapes that make up this scene and give the impression of a lively, mobile sky. This vibrant sky contrasts with the quiet village below it. Van Gogh also creates a vivid contrast between the blue sky and the yellow stars to exaggerate the stars in the sky. He uses oil

Van Gogh was an aesthetic and emotional artist. He not only expressed himself through a canvass but also through words. Van Gogh sent heartfelt letters to his brother Theo throughout his whole life as an artist; it was through words and paint that he truly illustrated the way he felt. In one of Van Gogh’s first self-portraits titled ‘’Self-Portrait with Pipe’’(1886) shows an image of Van Gogh in a very dark environment with little to no light. It was influenced by the Dutch showing very dark earthy tones of brown, blue, and gray.…

This painting was painted in Arles, France. The style of this art piece is a seascape. When Van Gogh was painting the water of this intriguing painting he used thick brush strokes with many different shades of blue, white, yellow and even a little bit of green to get the color of the ocean. I think Van Gogh used these colors because these colors look like the color of the sea. The colors made nice contrast but if you look close at the picture it doesn’t seem like the colors will work together, when you look at the whole picture the colors match.…

Throughout our lives, we encounter many people, groups and ideas who leave a sort of impression on us, both positive and negative. Similarly, in art history there have been multiple preceding artist movements like the impressionists, who have impacted artists that were a part of other subsequent movements, like the fauvists or expressionists. The similarities between Maurice de Vlaminck's "Chatou Bridge" (1907) and Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night" (1889) reflect some impressionism qualities that have positively influenced Vlaminck when composing this fauvist painting. Vlaminck reinforces this notion when he declares "I love van Gogh more than my own father", after visiting one of van Gogh's exhibitions in 1901. Maurice de Vlaminck was…
