One of those beliefs was in a system of Gods and Goddesses that all ruled over something. One of the God’s was Uranus. He was the God of the sky and the Father of the 12 main titans. Uranus was described as many different things by many different people. Uranus was the literal sky. Some said that he was very long; so long that his edges descended to rest upon the outermost limits of the flat earth. It was also said that his fingertips were in the farthest East, his toes were in the farthest west and his body arching to form a dome that reaches across the whole sky (“Ouranos”1). She asked for all her sons to help her with it. Four of her sons placed themselves at the corners of the world ready to catch their father when he came to lay with Gaea. The other son that helped hugely was Cronus. He was hidden under their bed with an adamantine sickle. He was supposed to use this sickle to cut Uranus when he came to lay with Gaea (“Ouranos” 1). This cut supposed to make Uranus unable to produce any more children as Gaea was in an immense amount of pain from all the children they have already produced. Then, Uranus promised the fall of the Titans and harsh punishments for the crimes they committed against him. These would be enforced by Zeus who deposed the five brothers and cast them into the pit of Tartarus. The blood that fell to the Earth from the cut ironically produced more creatures. It produced the Giants, the Ash Tree Nymphs, and the Erinnyes (Heisod 1). The blood that fell to the ocean, caused an uprising of foam from the sea. Out of this foam arose a very well-known Greek goddess, Aphrodite. This another one of the many reasons why Uranus and Gaea were very important to the history of Greek …show more content…
He did die, but it has just not been found or proven how he died. Of course, a lot of people who have studied this subject have said their own different theories and possible explanations to his death, but no one knows which one of those theories is true. Some people say that he could have possibly withdrawn from the Earth in some sort of way. Other people say that he just died because of the cut and he bled out, which that seems to be the most logical explanation but some people are still not convinced. There are countless possible explanations to his death but what really matters is what happened after

Myths serve to represent a culture's ideologies, and as they are passed down, they evolve to keep up with changing values, because they are only relevant if an audience holds the same values as those that appear in the myth. Therefore, Disney could not make a movie in which the Greek hero Heracles murders his first wife and children-part of the original Greek myth, rather the movie had a 'happily ever after' ending more suitable to an American audience. While the Greeks tended to have a negative outlook on life, Americans tend to be much more optimistic, which is why the Greek concept of love is not nearly the same as the American view, and the of the birth of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, is telling of the Greek outlook on love.…
