Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence and the Statue of Virginia for Religious Freedom. He was the third president of the United States of America. Jefferson studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1767. Two years later, in 1769, he was elected to the state of Virginia in the House of Representatives. Thomas Jefferson was one of the leaders in the independence movement against the British. In his 1774 essay published 'A Summary View of the Rights of British America' he spoke up for independence of the Americans. He argued that the first settlers were independent and free individuals and not emissaries of the English Crown and that they now have the right to choose their own government.
