When the Vikings attempted to colonize in the Americas, Leif Erickson, who founded the Iceland settlement and the Greenland settlement, was the first Viking to do so. He was the Viking who went to Canada. He named the area Vinland due to all the grapes. The area had lots of grapes and plenty of good resources. Erickson put together ships and went along the Labrador. They arrived and look around a bit and had founded the Native Americans. They encountered a different race of people they had never seen before. It was the Inuits. The Vikings did not even think they were human. They did not know how to approach the situation. So, one Viking had the bright idea of going up to one of them and stabbing them. The Inuits did not take that so kindly and attacked the Vikings. The Vikings left North America after that. The Vikings then make a settlement in Newfoundland. The Vikings had advanced technology like steel swords and such but there was not many Vikings. The Native Americans had never seen weapons like that before. Disease also helped Cortes. Diseases the Spanish were now immune too, still spread to the Native Americans who had never been faced with these diseases. It was so significant to the conquest of the Americas because Cortes set a starting point for everybody. Everybody wanted to be like Cortes and get rich quick.
