Michelangelo was one of the most famous artists in Italy during the Renaissance. He was more interested in watching painters work than school. Early on he modeled many of his sculptures after antique works he saw. His work the “Pieta” was honored and put up in Saint Peter's Basilica and completed a commission for a statue of “David” which two artists attempted and dropped. He also started working on Pope Julius II tomb before being switched to painting the Sistine Chapel's ceiling. This piece is argued to be one of the best during the time and is an excellent example of what the renaissance had to offer. It's even said Raphael changed his style after seeing this piece.
