How Did The Military Build The Roman Empire

The Roman empire was one of the most successful and feared empire in all of history. Lasting 500 years, from around 31 B.C to 476 A.D, they accomplished a lot of things that inspired many empires for thousands of years even after their fall due to Germanic invaders and problems inside the country itself. Rome was greatly known for their military might and their ability to conquer and govern huge amounts of land. Roman military at the time were one of the most feared, discipline, and loyal, but this would change as Rome grew older. What made Rome’s military one of the most feared during this time period was their ability to conquer anyone that stood in their way. The gladius, also known as the Hispanic sword, was a short sword adopted into the Roman army during the Second Punic War under the command of general Scipio. The sword originated in Spain and was first used by local tribes such as the Iberians and the celts. It was primary used for stabbing the enemy when long weapons such as spears became useless due to the lack of space on the battlefield.
