The Klondike Gold Rush started on August 16, 1896 & ended in 1899. An estimated 100,000 prospectors moved to the Klondike region of the Yukon in Northeast Alaska. Gold was first discovered in the Yukon region. When the news of gold reached Seattle & San Fransisco in the summer of 1897 it created a stampede of 100,000 prospectors who would be looking for gold. Soon people began to pour into Seattle to get ready for the trip up to the Yukon. People had to walk in -65 degree weather to get to Dawson city. It also took about 40 trips to bring all of the supplies. When the prospectors got to Dawson it was filled with reporters, photographers, entrepreneurs, miners, etc. Dawson’s population increased from just 500 people to 12,000 people.by the
