The Iron Age was an era when the dominant toolmaking material was iron. The Iron Age is considered by many to be between 1200 BC and 600 BC. Mass production of ancient iron did not become widespread until the ability to smelt iron ore. During The Iron Age the process of removing impurities and regulating the amount of carbon in the alloy was developed, allowing worldwide production of ancient iron.
