The ancient Greco-Romans invented, or had a part in inventing, many things that impact our lives every single day. We don’t even think about how these creations affect our lives much less the difficulties that the inventors had to overcome to create them. Throughout our daily lives we use and see so many great discoveries and creations yet we don’t even know who to thank. But those who do know thank the ancient Greco-Romans for everything from being able to sit down on and flush our toilets to the convenience of automatic doors.

They made grid-based cities, the Julian calendar, odometers, alarm clocks, and even created the world renowned Olympics. Even our current ideas about the concept of democracy are based on those of the ancient Greeks (ancienthistorylists.com). Although you may not realize it, even the smallest things you use every day were created so long ago by the ancient Greeks and/or Romans. The next time you find yourself in the presence of one of those helpful inventions, think about what it took to create them, what little they had to work with, and how far they have come. It is astonishing to think that ideas that occurred centuries ago could have such long lasting effects on people everywhere even to this day.
