Some families did not have enough to support their family not even by working day and night, some gave up and had to separate their families. Some parents either sent their children away or sent them with other family members, however some children would leave on their own. In “Hard Travelin” a kid named Louis Banks was interviewed about how he traveled on train to train because he had no place to live. He was only fourteen when the Great Depression began he describes how his life being a hobo was with no parents to look after him because they could not support him at home. Many children lived their lives just as Banks did during the Great Depression, getting little food and spare change to live each day. Moreover, people who did keep their children lived in Shantytowns and were receiving food from breadlines, yet it was not enough to keep their family going. It was truly heartbreaking for parents when they had to let go their own children because they had no jobs, and no money to keep them
