How Did The French Revolution Support The American Revolution

The ideas of enlightenment sparked bloody and brutal revolutions throughout Europe and Atlantic colonies. Through the late 17th and mid 18th century the idea of enlightenment was spread throughout the world. Such as in America, America went through their revolution in 1765 to 1783. They fought and won independence from Great Britain, like the Haitians did from France. The American revolution inspired revolutions in Haiti and in France. The Haitian revolution was led by Toussaint Louverture and the French Revolution was led by Maximilien Robespierre. Even Though the Haitian revolution was much more complex because it was several revolutions going on at the same time, these revolutions were more alike than they were different. The Haitians economy was flourishing because of the plantation, they were growing cash crops such as sugar, coffee, indigo, and cotton. The French economy was going under in debt because Louis XVI was spending more than he was bringing in. He spent at least 20% of France’s revenue to pay for his palace at Versailles. Another reason they were going under was because the French were supporting the American revolution and trying to pay off war debts. They were going under and tried to get money from the people with none of it, the third estate. To conclude, the Haitian revolution and the French Revolution were more alike than different. These revolutions were inspired by the enlightenment and the american revolution. Moreover, they both struggling with the proper rights and representation of their people in government, and they did not like how they were being ruled, even though their economies were completely different.
