Historical events had large contributions behind the ideas which made the Constitution. The founding fathers looked at previous times and articles to aid in the creation of the Constitution. One notable influence was that of the Roman empire, form which ideas such as the idea of a Republic and Checks and Balances were taken. Another influence was of European documents and movements. Articles highlighted the duties of each part of government, while Checks and Balances made sure the Branches did not get more powerful than each other and so the government—as a whole—was powerful. This form of government under the Constitution made it so that the States were not depended upon, but still allowed States to have a say as they controlled laws not explicitly stated in the Constitution and had representation through Congress. Additionally, amendments let flaws in the Constitution to be mended. All of the stated allowed for the government to reach an equilibrium in power and prevented a tyrannical rule like that of the former
